This course is taught partially in Italian and partially in a foreign language. Study materials can be provided in the foreign language and the final exam can be taken in the foreign language.

Learning Objectives

The course has three main pillars: theory of translation applied to the Chinese context, translation of excerpts from Chinese relevant 20th-century literature (prose and theatre), monographic lessons on Chinese literature.

Program

1. theory of translation applied to the Chinese context (15h);

2. Lao She and Teahouse (5h);

3. translation of excerpts from Teahouse and quality discussion (12h);

4. Can Xue (2h);

5. Translation of excerpts from the first chapter of The dark gift of Mother Earth (5h)

Bridging Courses

It is preferable a basic knowledge of Chinese contemporary literature.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

  • Good competence in translation from Chinese of both theatre and prose texts
  • High competence in the theory of narrative translation
  • Critical awareness about translation and about the relevance of the role of the translator 
  • Knowledge and understanding: knowledge and understanding of the historical and evolutionary path of Chinese literature
