Learning Objectives
The course will focus on the learning of the necessary theoretical and practical means to understand the evolution of Chinese art, from the beginnings to 20th century. The students are required to study the historical, philosophical and artistic contexts and the critical analysis of most representative artistic works. The active participation in class will be strongly encouraged. In addition to the reference manuals, the teacher will submit additional materials during the semester
Program
The program will focus on the analysis and transmission of theoretical and practical tools to understand the development and the role played by the arts in the Chinese cultural historical context, from the Neolithic to the 20th century.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
Knowledge and understandig: general overview of the basic themes and issues of Chinese art for understanding the events and critical debate on the developmente of Chinese civilization, from Neolithic to the 20th century.
Applying knowledge and understanding: Students will be able to understand and relate main historical events in the artistic and cultural fields.
Making judgement: students will be able to obtain critical skills with the Chinese reality, in different context of everyday life and professional life.
Communication skills: students will be able to express their ideas, projects and results obtained in a complex and articulated way.
Learning skills: students will be able to interact with different professional and cultural contexts. They know how to interpret, understand and use independently their expressive capabilities.

Frontal lessons; video visualization and interactive teaching support; study of the texts and images used in the lessons; teaching involves the active participation of students in lessons.

Frequency is recommended in order to gain more effective and clearer the proper methodology for analyzing the artistic sources.

- Assessment
Oral examination. In addition to the reference manuals and notes taken during the lessons, the teacher will provide additional materials such as: audio visuals projected in the classroom to support lessons, educational material (images, diagrams, seedlings, etc.). In this way, the student can develop a greater ability to read the artistic image.
Recommended texts are suggested as reference texts, at the discretion of the student, for any interest in deepening the main artistic genres (sculpture, ceramics, photography, painting and architecture).In the oral exam, the student must demonstrate that he has assimilated and understood the main characters that distinguish Chinese art from the most ancient to the recent phases; to know how to recognize works and phenomena of art; to know how to frame individual subjects and to know artists, schools and the different artistic processes that are being dealt with in the course. Voting will be given by considering how generally, within the various questions asked, the student demonstrates that he or she knows how to master the exam.
