Learning Objectives

The objectives of this class are to acquire a basic preparation that allows students on the one hand to understand the functioning of some IT tools and to know how to use them in real application contexts, on the other hand to understand the functioning of the Internet, networks and some services, knowing how to use them in contexts real.

Program

1) ELEMENTS OF BASIC COMPUTER SCIENCE

In this part the following topics will be explored:

  •     Data storage (bits and their storage, main memory, mass memory, information representation and bitstream)
  •     Data processing (computer architecture, machine language, program execution)
  •     Operating systems (operating system architecture, process coordination)
  •     Networking and the Internet (basic elements of networks, the Internet, the world wide web, security concepts)
  •     Database systems (foundations of databases, the relational model)
  •     Licensing (the different licensing models, commercial software, free software and its business models, the Open Source paradigm, Creative Commons licenses)

2) USE OF SOME IT TOOLS

In this part they will deepen, also from a practical point of view regarding their use, the following topics:

  •     Electronic signatures and digital signature
  •     Electronic time stamping and time stamping
  •     Electronic certified delivery services and PEC
  •     The IT document
  •     SPID and digital identity
  •     Personal protection tools
  •     Data protection techniques (hints)
  •     Biometric and access control systems

Bridging Courses

There are no prerequisites.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

  • Knowing how to use in real operational contexts: electronic and digital signature, time stamp, PEC, personal protection tools, relational databases, access control systems
  • Know and understand the main data protection techniques
  • Know how the software is licensed
  • Know and understand the functioning of a computer, hardware / software components, digital formats, the Internet and networks, computing

Teaching Material

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Supporting Activities

There are no teaching support activities.

Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment

Teaching
  • Frontal lessons with dialogue
  • Exercises in small groups
  • Viewing of audiovisual materials
  • Case study analysis

The topics could be faced both theoretically and applied within specific laboratory activities.

Attendance

There are no attendance obligations.

Course books

The recommended reference text is the J.G. Brookshear, D. Brylow Computer Science. A general overview 13th Ed. Pearson Italia, Milan, 2020

It should be noted that the text covers only a part of the program of the study course. The remainder of the program will find coverage in the teaching material made available by the teacher on the Blended Learning platform, and consisting of: handouts, exercises, slides, scientific articles.

Assessment

The final assessment test is written or computerized and aimed at ascertaining the knowledge and understanding of the concepts presented in class, as well as their relative practical application to real cases.
The final assessment test may consist of tests (single choice, multiple or completion), questions with open answers or based on the resolution of simple case studies consistent with those analyzed during classroom lessons (and reported in the teaching material made available on the teaching site)

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.

Additional Information for Non-Attending Students

Teaching

Consultation of the didactic material made available on the specific blended platform.
