Learning Objectives

The course aims to analyze the relationship between psychology and law and arguments of greatest scientific collaboration and expert, both in children (custody of children in cases of separation, etc.) And in that of adults (psychological damage, suitability parental, etc.).
During the lectures will be organized meetings with some operators (judges, lawyers, technical consultants, operators prisons), as well as the cases discussed.
The teaching focuses on the issues of forensic psychology in civil and penal field, placing itself as a complement to the teaching of "Psychology of marginality and deviance" of the second year that focuses instead on the issues in criminal cases.

Program

 1. Background on legal psychology
2. Purpose and methodology of the expertise in the legal field
3. The separation and divorce of the spouses and the custody of children
4. The national and international adoption and foster care eterofamiliare
5. The evaluation of the damage to the person
6.  The penitentiary psychology and prison conditions
7. The communication and interpersonal relations in the judicial context

First week. Presentation of the course and examination procedures. Introduction to forensic psychology and to the specificity of the forensic context with respect to the clinical context. The judge's questions and the role of the CTU / CTP.

Second and third week. Separation and divorce and custody of children. Theoretical and methodological aspects and presentation of a case.

Fourth week. Listening to the minor. Evaluation tools for parenting and clinical-forensic skills

Fifth week. Evaluation of psychic damage and presentation of a case. Presentation of other topics of civil law area.

Sixth week. Presentation of the theme of the prison, organizational, institutional aspects and the role of the psychologist. Meeting with prisoners and operators at the Fossombrone Detention Center (the date of this meeting will have to be agreed with the prison management, so it could change week with respect to this calendar).

Seventh week. Discussion on the meeting in prison. Professional and educational perspectives of the forensic psychologist. Review of the main topics of the course. General review and exam examples.

In relation to the Forensic Psychology students must show possession:
- Mastery of the knowledge of specialized disciplines;
- The understanding of the advanced concepts of the discipline;
- The ability to use knowledge and concepts to think independently on the issues of the discipline.

Assessment

 oral exam.  A specific and in-depth knowledge of the exam topics is required, as well as the acquisition of an appropriate language and an interdisciplinary perspective, as indicated in class and as also covered in the textbooks. The ability to critically re-elaborate the contents and the methodological analysis will be evaluated, with particular reference to the ability to distinguish specific theories and methods of legal and penitentiary psychology from other contexts of application of psychology.
