Learning Objectives
The course is focused on the various forms of the geothermal energy, as renewable: electricity production, direct use and ground heat exchange (gothermal heat pumps).
Program
Definition of the geothermal energy. Introductory concepts and History of the geothermics. Volcanology and geothermal energy. Classification of the geothermal resources. Structure of the geothermal areas: the heat source, the reservoir, the cap rocks. Geothermal exploration: geological, geochemical, hydrogeological and geophysical methods of investigations. Deep exploratory wells. Modeling of geothermal systems. Regional geothermics and history of the geothermal resources in Italy and Latin America. Different uses of the geothermal resource. Generation of electricity (open dry steam system and closed binary cycle ORC system). Direct use of the geothermal resource: hot water (district heating), Heating and cooling systems with Ground Coupled Heat Pumps (GCHP). Direct experience at the geothermal system of Larderello.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
The student will aquire a critical knowledge on the whole spectrum of use of the geothermal energy.
Teaching Material
The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

- Assessment
Oral examination.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
