Learning Objectives
The course aims to introduce students to the analysis of a well-defined historical moment and to start them to the concrete application of the concepts and procedures of historical research through the guided or individual discussion of documents and historiographical issues relevant. The knowledge of historiographical theories and documentary research techniques are essential training elements for the exercise of teacher professionalism and the construction of laboratories together with students.
Program
The course aims to deepen the history of Italy during the fascist regime, from the march on Rome to 25 July 1943. It will analyse the modalities of the transition from the liberal system to the dictatorship, the consolidation of the regime and its institutional, political, economic and social impact. Particular attention will be given to the category of totalitarianism and to the contextualization of Italian fascism in a comparative way. In this perspective, the ideological elaboration, myths, practices and cults of a regime that aimed to transform Italians into «uomini nuovi» will be deepened.
