Learning Objectives
The course aims to provide students with the basis for the cultural, social and linguistic analysis of the "export" of one of the most important Italian authors of children's literature in German-speaking countries. The skills are divided into two levels:
- analysis of the historical / editorial phenomenon (in Italy and Germany);
- analysis of the phenomenon from the linguistic point of view (the problems of the translation of the various texts, in the various decades);
Program
The first part of the program (8-10 hours) aims at reconstructing Gianni Rodari's literary career and at his position in the Italian publishing and cultural field; the second part (4-6 hours) will reconstruct the history of translations of Rodarian works in German-speaking countries, with particular reference to the socio-political conditions that influenced their reception; the third part of the program will deal with the linguistic analysis of translations on the basis of textual examples taken from the various German versions.
Bridging Courses
At the beginning of the course, introductory texts will be suggested about Translation Studies and the work of Gianni Rodari.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
Knowledge and understanding: students will learn methods and techniques of translation and linguistic investigation starting from a literary phenomenon, and analyse into depth the figure of Gianni Rodari and his works.
Applied knowledge and comprehension skills: students, in group work, will use the knowledge accumulated especially in the initial part of the course to reflect actively and on different levels on the linguistic issues posed by any literary text, a very useful activity for those approaching the teaching of foreign languages and cultures.
Making judgment: students will learn how to discriminate between relevant and irrelevant data in order to articulate an autonomous and personal reading of literary manifestations, both in the cultures of origin and in the cultures with which they come into contact.
Communication skills: students will have to develop the ability to explain and describe literary and linguistic phenomena to specialists and non-specialists with the right references not only to the research areas that naturally deal with these phenomena, but also the ability to broaden their vision to other spheres of investigation (historical, social, cultural, political, etc.)
Learning skills: students will have to develop the cultural tools in order to independently investigate any other literary or cultural phenomenon with the same wealth of resources and ideas.
Teaching Material
The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
