Learning Objectives

Concerning History of Modern Philosophy the student will be required to possess:-  basic knowledge;-  understanding of the main concepts of the discipline;-  aptitude to use knowledge and concepts for reasoning in conformity to the logics of the discipline.

Program

Reading and commentary of Rousseau's Social Contract. Arguments e timing: 1) Rousseau and his time (4 hours); 2) The social contract (6 hours); 3) Sovereignty and general will  (6 hours); 4) The law and the lawgiver  (8 hours); 5) The forms of government (8 hours); 6) Roman models and civil religion (8 hours).

concerning History of Modern Philosophy the student should be able

  • to know and understand the main concepts of the discipline, viewed in its today epistemological structure and with special relation to its constitutive objects;
  • to apply these concepts in order to take in consideration, in his/her activity as educator, the historical grounds of today systems of values or ideas - it does no matter if belonging to him/herself or to other subjects;
  • to make personal judgements about the discussed contents, starting from their sources and their exposition by the teacher;
  • to communicate them to a diversified public;
  • to learn something by his/herself through the reading of the texts.

Basic notions of modern philosophy and history as achievable in every secundary-school text-book

Assessment

oral exam, in order to ascertain the effectively acquired knowledges, their application and the critical aptitude of the student before themes and problems discussed during class. At the end of the course a self-assessment test is foreseen.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
