This course is taught partially in Italian and partially in a foreign language. Study materials can be provided in the foreign language and the final exam can be taken in the foreign language.

Learning Objectives

The object of this course is to study “European literature”, examining which have been the ideological, historical and cultural interferences that have promoted or undermined this concept.

Another goal is to help students in producing a written paper in Italian on a topic of their choice that due to research method and retrieval of bibliographic resources, could be a useful precursor to the writing of a dissertation in a humanistic field.

Program

Contents:

I: Romance Philology in Textual Criticism.

II: Basic structures of culture in the Middle Ages in Europe.

  Phenomenology of literature: epic poetry, lyric poetry, romance poetry.

    Individualization of a European literary body of rules.

Some of the lessons will be taken in French or Spanish language, with the participation of specialized professors. 

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Objectives (Dublin descriptors):

Students have to demonstrate a knowledge in historical and comparative perspectives of the cultural and literary structure of France, Spain and Italy in the passage from Antiquity to the Middle Ages, to the Modern Age.

Students need also to demonstrate how to develop a thesis in Humanistic field.

Students are required to be able to apply their knowledge and understanding, and problem solving abilities in new or unfamiliar environments, within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study.

Course books

Texts: attending students are expected to read and understand the recommended bibliography uploaded to Moodle by the Professor.

Otherwise, to obtain a French, Spanish or English bibliography please contact the professor during office hours. 

Assessment

Written or verbal examination in Italian.

Verbal examination in a foreign language.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
