Learning Objectives

The phenomenon of interaction between different arts and media, which already finds its founding scene in the famous description of Achilles' shield in the eighteenth canto of the Iliad, has been observed within the cultural-historical heritage since the origins of civilisations, but it has become predominant since the last decades of the 20th century.  In a world in which the borders between artistic forms and aesthetic canons are increasingly blurred and porous, contemporary aesthetics is permeated by an intense activity of intermedial synergies and metissage of expressive codes that, under the effect of a widespread 'iconic turn', reject the traditional and one-dimensional forms of writing and, more generally, of social communication.

In the light of these assumptions, the course, articulated in a series of encounters, explores the unprecedented and unpredictable directions that texts open up within thought and cultures, through certain intermediary dynamics of narration that take place in the European regions along a long-term historical-literary axis.

The study paths, conceived in a multidisciplinary perspective, will highlight a new conception of literature as an increasingly extended, fluid and inclusive concept and as a living organism in constant transformation.
