Learning Objectives

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

  • Knowledge and understanding: Students will gain a solid grasp of modern and contemporary Chinese literature, understanding the literary movements, influential authors, and distinctive features of Chinese literature of the period.
  • Ability to apply knowledge: Students will be able to critically analyze Chinese literary works of the period, identifying and interpreting the themes, social issues, styles and techniques used by the authors.
  • Cognitive skills: Students will develop critical and analytical thinking skills to critically evaluate Chinese literary works, applying relevant critical theories and formulating well-structured and supported arguments.
  • Practical Skills: Students will acquire skills in translating modern and contemporary Chinese literary works, demonstrating good command of the Chinese language and literature-specific translation strategies.
  • Communication Skills: Students will be able to effectively communicate their analyzes and translations of Chinese literary works through clear oral presentations and well-structured academic writing.
  • Research Skills: Students will develop independent research skills to locate, evaluate, and use primary and secondary sources relevant to the study of Chinese literature after 1900.

The teaching materials are prepared by the teacher on blended moodle.

Assessment

The exam consists of an oral interview on the topics covered during the course. It consists of two parts: the first consists of 4-5 questions aimed at verifying the acquisition of the theoretical knowledge (history of Chinese literature and related historical-cultural context) imparted during the course; the second consists in the reading, translation and commentary of some of the texts presented during the course. Furthermore, active participation in the lessons will be taken into account.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
