The course aims to provide theoretical-practical concepts useful for understanding the dynamics that turn up within groups (intra-group) and between groups (inter-group) focusing on a perspective that also examines individuals and their specific. Theories aimed at analyzing and understanding relationships and psychic reality within groups will be studied. The theories of Freud, Bion and Foulkes together with other authors will offer the basis for the deepening of the methodological epistemic field of the group dimension. Recent research and news cases will be discussed in the classroom.

PART I (14 hours): the first part will focus on theoretical-practical concepts useful for understanding group psychology and will integrate the two orientations of dynamic and social psychology as the necessary basis for understanding and analyzing group dynamics. Much attention will be dedicated to the concepts of Freud, Bion, Foulkes, Anzieu etc. as “essential tools” for analyzing individual and group psychic life.

PART II (14 hours): the second part will present the group’s characteristics such as psychic activity and device: the dynamic phenomena of life’s group, the various setting types and the functions of groups (clinical groups, psychotherapy, training, rehabilitation work, institutional therapy, prevention, etc.) will be explained highlighting the theoretical and applicative position also through examples taken from the clinical and training field. The skills to manage and facilitate group processes will be consolidated.

PART III (8 hours): the third part will be dedicated to the exploration of intrapsychic dynamics and relationships in contemporary psychoanalysis: the internalization of relationships is not only limited to the family, but also extends to the social and cultural areas. Subjectivity will be examined in further detail as the outcome of a process that begins within the relationship with the transgenerational mental field.

About Theory and Techniques of group dynamics the student must show:

- knowledge, understanding and mastery of the fundamental concepts of the discipline;

- ability to use knowledge related to dynamic and social psychology to understand group dynamics;

- ability to read and interpret group phenomena;

- ability to use the knowledge and concepts acquired to reason according to theoretical models and the logic of the discipline.

In order to ascertain the level of learning, the following will be assessed in particular:

- mastery of specialized knowledge and language,

- the ability to articulate reasoning, ideas and concepts in an organic way and with critical competence,

- the development of ideas and insights relating to the various aspects of the discipline,

- the use of concepts to analyze group dynamics and contemporary phenomena.
