Learning Objectives
The course aims to explore the evolutionary processes of Chinese literature from its origin to the Song dynasty, as well as to lead students to the knowledge of literary genres, works and authors, also focusing on the basic philosophical-literary concepts of Chinese culture.
Program
The essential content of the course is to discover the relationship between Chinese literature and historical, philosophical and ethical-political culture. The history of writing supports will be retraced, the inscriptions on oracle bones, on bronzes, the main canonical texts of the Confucian tradition, of early Taoism and the art of war by Sun Tzu will be presented. A specific space will be dedicated above all to the cultural and intellectual panorama that characterized China in the pre-imperial period, i.e. the so-called One Hundred Schools of Thought. The main literary productions of the Qin and Han dynasties will also be presented and, finally, the poems of the Tang and Song dynasties and the arrival of block printing (Tang dynasty) and the printing of the Song dynasty, which greatly contributed to the dissemination of knowledge writing and the emergence of Chinese literature.

- Assessment
The exam consists of an oral interview on the topics covered during the course. It consists of two parts: the first consists of 4-5 questions aimed at verifying the acquisition of the theoretical knowledge (history of Chinese literature and related historical-cultural context) imparted during the course; the second consists in the reading, translation and commentary of some of the texts presented during the course. Furthermore, active participation in the lessons will be taken into account.

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
