Learning Objectives
The course aims to retrace the fundamental phases of the literature of migration in Germany, analyzing the related texts in their historical, cultural and social context, from the beginning of labor migration, in the 1950s, up to today.
Program
Migration Literature in Germany
From its beginnings, in the 1950s, until today, the texts of migration literature in Germany have changed, both in terms of the issues addressed, and for the formal aspects and those relating to the perspectives adopted.
Initially it was the immigrants themselves who wrote texts about their immigration experiences, while today, more and more often, it is their grandchildren and great-grandchildren who tell what it means to live "between two cultures", consciously choosing between the elements of one and of the other, evaluating those most congenial to them. After a historical and cultural introduction of labor migration in Germany, novels, poems, song lyrics and short stories from the various generations of authors and authors will be analysed, always carefully considering the historical, social and cultural context in which they were written.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
Knowledge and understanding: students acquire knowledge of the historical-cultural context and the ability to contextualize the historical, social and cultural texts analyzed.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: students are able to independently apply the theories and critical methodologies for the analysis of the proposed texts.
Making judgements: students are able to develop and argue their own interpretative theses regarding the texts analysed.
