Learning Objectives
The course provides an overview of the main theories relating to the concept of gender, its development over time and its relevance in social contexts. It also intends to deepen the family institution from a sociological perspective to examine its transformations, cultural dimensions and roles in society. The two concepts will be related to each other by considering both the micro dimension (for example the relationships between genders, between genders and generations, interdependencies), and the macro dimension (genders and families in economic systems, in the labor market, with respect to models of welfare, to migrations).
Program
The course aims to offer the opportunity to know and critically read social transformations considering the gender perspective and the implications of family relationships in our socio-economic and cultural context. In particular, the following topics will be addressed:
Gender roles and families in the history
Dataset to study families
Gender, families and public sphere
Gender, families and welfare
Gender, families and work
Gender and health
Gender-fair language
Gender-based violence
Gender discriminations
