Learning Objectives
The aim of the course is to allow students to acquire advanced training on the subject of social change, with specific reference to the analysis of the different meanings with which this concept has been used in the social sciences, particularly in sociology. In this perspective and in relation to legal and political institutions, the evolution of some relevant social institutions will be examined.
On the basis of the acquired knowledge, students will be able to develop analytical skills regarding the general characteristics of social and institutional change and the specific changes that have affected interpersonal and family relationships with particular intensity in recent decades.
Program
The course starts from an analysis of the contributions of the social sciences and particularly of sociology to the study of social institutions, conducted with a broad analysis of the historical evolution of some of the most important institutions: the state, the market, religion, school, marriage and the couple. A specific attention will be dedicated to this last theme: reproductive behaviors, couple relationships, social attitudes and legal regulation have undergone rapid and dramatic changes over the last few decades, especially in Western countries. which will be taken into account using the most recent data available to supplement those reported in the texts in the program.
