Learning Objectives
The course is aimed at providing the epistemological foundations of general geography and human geography: the links between natural dynamics and human actions are in fact increasingly interconnected and they represent challenges to which humanity is called to provide quick and effective solutions. These topics will be issued with knowledge and with the foundations of cartographic representations.
Program
The course is structured in three parts:
1. Disciplinary epistemology
2. The problems between man and the environment (climate change; protection of water, soil and rocks and biological resources) and human geography (concepts and methods; human pression and urbanization; the relationship of the world population's development with the environment and the natural resources; different distribution and use of resources; limits of sustainability; culture and territory on different scales). Particular attention will be given to the climate problem and the humans who influences it, causing, in part, its changes.
3. Cartography: methods and tools between past and present.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
The student must possess the basic knowledge, methods and problems of geographical science also in relation to other disciplines. They must demonstrate understanding of the concepts and theories provided by the course but also the ability to use this knowledge to reason according to the specific logic of the discipline in subsequent studies. In particular, they must be able to think and make personal judgments about geographical topics for their use in teaching or professional application.
Teaching Material
The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
