Learning Objectives

The course aims to encourage the acquisition of pedagogical, psychological, methodological and didactic knowledge and skills characterizing work in nurseries and childcare services in relation to the care, education and socialization of boys and girls from 0 to 6 years with particular attention to the social, family, cultural and territorial context; to the planning and organization of educational services for children, with a view to global sustainability.

Program

The course aims to encourage the acquisition of knowledge and skills relating to the quality of educational and care services for children, consistently with the ten key principles proposed in the document Proposal for Key Principles of a Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care of the European Commission (ECEC, 2014) with particular reference to the innovation represented by Legislative Decree no. 65/2017 establishing the zerosei integrated system and the innovations introduced by the Pedagogical Guidelines (2021) and the National Guidelines for educational services for children (2022). The following topics will therefore be examined: the quality of educational and care services for children (Lessons 1-3); Legislative Decree no. 65/2017, the pedagogical guidelines for the zerosei integrated system (2021) and the national guidelines for educational services for children (2022) (Lessons 4-7); Planning at the nursery and knowledge of the context (Lessons 8-11); Design models (Lessons 12-15); Strategic devices to promote and qualify educational continuity (Lessons 16 and 17); Coordination, exercise of educational leadership and working group (Lessons 18-20).

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

At the end of the course the student is expected to demonstrate possession of:

-       (Knowledge and Understanding) the mastery of basic knowledge relating to the nature and function of educational services for early and middle childhood; mastery of basic knowledge relating to the quality, design and organization of nursery schools; mastery of basic knowledge relating to strategic devices for promoting and qualifying educational continuity; mastery of basic knowledge relating to coordination, the exercise of educational leadership and the working group

-     (Applying Knowledge and Understanding) the ability to use knowledge and concepts to reason according to the logic of the pedagogy of educational services to plan, promote and qualify educational continuity; to evaluate the strategic aspects useful for differentiation, integration and inclusion in educational services for children with particular attention to the management of educational problems in contemporary societies

- (Making Judgments) of the autonomy of judgment or the ability to acquire information and recognize the main aspects of childhood education to be developed in children's services by exercising a critical, personal and original perspective

- (Communication Skills) the ability to clearly and effectively communicate acquired knowledge, ideas, problems and solutions to one's interlocutors, specialists and non-specialists, with adequate disciplinary vocabulary and terminological precision

-  (Learning Skills) of the ability to independently study and learn the knowledge and skills acquired, demonstrating communicative effectiveness and originality in the presentation

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Participatory frontal lessons in which students are invited to dialogue with the teacher on the topics addressed during the course

Assessment

Oral or written test with which you intend to ascertain:

- Knowledge of the contents of the materials studied and ability to report the problems addressed in them

- Learning definitions and concepts as well as technical terms of the discipline

- Ability to connect and contextualize between contents, problems and in-depth methods during the course of studies 

- Ability to re-elaborate the knowledge acquired in a personal and critical way

- Expressive properties and use of specialist terminology

The evaluation criteria used during the assessment test include:

- knowledge and mastery of the topics covered;

- articulation and adequacy of the answers in relation to the contents of the program;

- conscious use of disciplinary language.

Up to 30 points will be assigned for each of the three criteria and the final grade will result from the average of the three assessments awarded.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
