The course aims to provide students with the tools to analyze the problems, choices and effects of economic policies. The course aims to analyze and study the concepts and theoretical foundations necessary for understanding the issues related to economic policy in its various application areas, and the related inferences with the dynamics present in the interactions between agents and institutional subjects in the reference markets . The course provides the theoretical and methodological tools (game theory) useful for understanding, analyzing and tackling the main issues of economic policy, with particular attention to fiscal, monetary, exchange rate and balance of payments policies, for growth, employment and the fight against poverty. Particular attention is also paid to the European dimension and to the analysis of income and wealth inequalities.

• Illustrate the issues related to certain topics such as budget policy, monetary policy, currency and international trade policy, tax policy, employment and growth policies.
• Investigate the European dimension of economic policy and the transformations induced by recent developments in the economy.
• The Great Recession and the Pandemic - Efficiency, Poverty and Inequalities.

Political Economy; Basic mathematics and statistics

- Knowledge and understanding: Students will have to acquire knowledge of the main theoretical tools developed to understand the various economic policies and the macroeconomic equilibrium and economic growth. Know and understand the general theory of economic policy and some peculiar aspects relating to the national or supranational reference context. The didactic work methods with which these results will be achieved will consist of: lectures, analysis and discussion of concrete cases, group work and in-depth seminars.

- Applied knowledge and understanding: Students will have to acquire knowledge of the historical evolution and functioning of economic policies and the main instruments of macroeconomic policy. Apply the knowledge acquired in relation to the theory and principles of economic policy to analyze problems connected to some issues concerning the behavior of institutions and economic agents in the different reference systems. The didactic work methods with which these results will be achieved will consist of: lectures, analysis and discussion of concrete cases, group work and in-depth seminars.

- Making judgements: Students will have to acquire knowledge of the theoretical principles and the use of the typical tools of economic policy which allow them to have a full capacity for judgment and analysis of economic sciences, the activity of agents, market trends and national and international economic systems. The didactic work methods with which these results will be achieved will consist of: frontal lessons, analysis and discussion of concrete cases, group work and in-depth seminars, production of papers.

- Communication skills: Students will have to acquire the ability to discuss the main issues of economic policy, international economic and financial globalization with conceptual and terminological rigor. Acquire mastery of a language and terminology useful for presenting issues related to economic policy in its various application areas. The didactic work methods with which these results will be achieved will consist of: frontal lessons, analysis and discussion of concrete cases, group work and in-depth seminars, production of papers.

- Learning skills: Students will have to acquire the ability to keep themselves continuously updated on the evolution of economic policies and on the main current international economic issues.
