Learning Objectives

The monographic course aims at analyzing literary and non-literary texts in Spanish language, providing Students with adequate knowledge in the field of Text Linguistics. After introducing the concept of "text" and the distinction between the two mentioned macro typologies, the course will outline their founding features at a formal, discursive and pragmatic level. It will explore the main models of text classification (E. Welrich; J. M. Adam; F. Sabatini, F. Sabatini & C. Camodeca, among others), as well as the communicative, structural and linguistic components of the examined typologies. An introductory framework to specialist languages will be provided, focusing on economic and tourism fields.

The course explores the major issues in Text Linguistics, focusing on specialized text and languages in Spanish.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

  • Knowledge and understanding: at the end of the course, students will recognize and analyze different types of text. 
  • Applying knowledge and understanding: students will be able to recognize and reproduce different text structures, developing and strengthening, even independently, their interpretative and analytical skills. The lectures and classroom exercises will therefore be aimed at in-depth study of the mentioned aspects.
  • Making judgements: students will be able to evaluate their own knowledge, demonstrating that they can make up for any shortcomings, even autonomously. 
  • Communication skills: students will be able to produce written and oral texts in Spanish in a clear and effective way, arguing in a complete and adequate way the theoretical aspects considered and the application choices, expressing the personal point of view about it.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
