Learning Objectives
Educational objectives: to acquire basic knowledge regarding the relationship between man and toxic agent in relation to the application of specific provisions of the law; acquire the main technical and legal knowledge regarding the harmfulness of a chemical nature in topical sectors (investigation of cadaveric material for the search for poisons, substances taken for pleasure: ethyl alcohol, drugs, doping, environmental pollution, food).
Program
A) Tasks and aims of forensic toxicology: field of application, topics of study, perspectives and developments of the discipline. The responsibility of the forensic toxicologist. B) poison and poisoning: historical notes, concept of poison and related legal issues; the poisoner. C) death by poisoning: the criteria in the diagnosis of poisoning, methodology of the chemical-toxicological investigation; chemical- toxicological analysis; searches for exegetic substances on cadavers; carbon monoxide. D) ethyl alcohol: assessment methods; fitness to drive, safety at work. E) narcotics: regulation, repression of illicit activities, prevention and rehabilitation interventions, classifications: opiates and derivatives, cannabis, cocaine, amphetamines, hallucinogens, barbiturates, psychotropic drugs, synthetic analogues, volatile substances research on non-biological and biological material, articles 186 and 187 of the CdS. F) doping: definitions, law 376/00, doping substances, laboratory tests; criminal penalties. G) environmental toxicology: water pollution; air pollution. H) the chemical risk in the workplace; legislative decree 81/08; environmental and biological monitoring.

- Know the scientific and applicative principles and the competence of the forensic toxicologist
- Know the situations in which the need to use the forensic toxicologist emerges in the evaluation of a case of legal interest

- Know the main toxic substances and the toxicological-forensic classification of poisons
- Know the legal principles of regulation of narcotic substances and the role of forensic toxicology in their application.
- Know the main interferences of narcotic substances with driving ability
- Know the main interferences of narcotic substances with suitability for work

- Ability to interpret a result of a forensic toxicological analysis

- Know how to communicate with appropriate language the main toxicological-forensic problems faced during the teaching course

- Ability to critically interpret a forensic toxicological report or a literature contribution on a forensic toxicological topic.
