Learning Objectives
The educational objectives of the course include:
- acquisition of the notions and conceptual categories necessary to interact with the various professionals who operate in the field of health and social services;
- adoption of social skills for physical activity interventions that pursue and protect the health of vulnerable members of society with specific needs;
- ability to get the sociological aspects related to the construction or reconstruction of the body image, even following events of clinical interest;
- mastery of contents and communication strategies for a correct promotion of health and physical activity.
Program
The topics of the lessons are divided into four units (developed in the indicated time sequence: 1-2-3-4) with related topics congruent with the educational objectives of the course of study, indication of study texts for each unit, and specific seminars.The four units all together constitute the teaching programme. Each unit will be supported by diversified scientific study material. Seminars with expert professionals in the fields of interest are included.
1. What is health - the sociological perspective of the relationship between health and physical activity;
- 1.1. Definitions of health from the WHO to the present day
- 1.2. Social determinants of health
- 1.3. Socio-economic factors and health
- 1.4. Social health and physical activity: social support, social capital
2. Physical activity and interventions in diversity of abilities and social vulnerability
- 2.1. Health actions and needs in society
- 2.2. ICF, autism, social skills and physical activity
- 2.3. Quality of social life of the elderly and physical activity
- 2.4. Vulnerable subjects, inclusion and physical activity
3. Sociological aspects of body image
- 3.1 Body image and physical activity
- 3.2 Social pressure and cultural factors
- 3.3. Body image and social functions
- 3.4. Physical activity and body dissatisfaction
4. Communication of physical activity: tools and methods
- 4.1. Health promotion and physical activity

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
Students will have to:
- know contents and problems related to the social health of individuals, groups and populations; know the strategies and methodologies relating to the communication and application of the guidelines for physical activity
-support arguments related to the resolution of problems concerning social health and physical activity, and demonstrate the ability to design interventions towards individuals, groups and populations
-show the ability to formulate autonomous judgments as a result of reflections and discussion of hypotheses regarding the topics covered and the problems addressed
- reveal communication skills using the appropriate language in a clear and understandable way
- manifest mastery of the application of the methods learned for the exercise of critical reflection and problem-solving
Teaching Material
The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
Supporting Activities
Seminars with the presence of external experts, professionals from the world of work in the field of health, social service, social promotion associations, health communication, and the promotion of well-being and physical activity.
Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment
- Teaching
The teaching methods consist of lectures and thematic seminars with the presence of external experts.
- Innovative teaching methods
Debate: Adoption of the regulated debate in the University in phases (preparation, launch, application, revision)
Flipped classroom: Flipped learning in academic teaching. Students will be invited to present to the class personal studies and research pertinent to the topics addressed in the teaching program.
- Attendance
In order to prepare for the final exam, students will have to know the entire teaching program including the four units, and study the indicated articles. The preparation also includes the study of the teaching material present in the teaching page of the Moodle blended learning platform.

- knowledge of issues relating to social health and physical activity, demonstration of the ability to plan interventions for individuals, groups and populations (knowledge of strategies and procedures: insufficient, sufficient, good, excellent)
- ability to formulate autonomous judgments as a result of reflections and discussion of hypotheses regarding the topics covered and the problems addressed (application of strategies and procedures: insufficient, sufficient, good, excellent)
- communication skills using the appropriate language in a clear and understandable way (mastery of specific language: insufficient, sufficient, good, excellent)
- mastery of the application of the methods learned for the exercise of critical reflection and problematisation (critical exercise, expressive autonomy: insufficient sufficient, good, excellent)
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
Additional Information for Non-Attending Students
- Teaching
Non-attending students are required to contact the teacher for information about teaching. Students who do not participate in the activities that will be carried out in class will have to study substitute texts reserved for non-attending students.
