Learning Objectives

The aims of the training are to introduce the student to the knowledge of Excel, with particular emphasis on the statistical data analysis.

Program

The topics covered will be: hints of statistics, the Excel worksheet, some simplest mathematical functions, creation of graphs, frequency and statistical distributions, probability distributions. Additionally, we will discuss also conditional formatting, data sharing between Word and Excel, and the use of advanced tools such as pivot tables and simple macros.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Knowledge and Understanding: The student will be required to have basic knowledge of statistics, the fundamental functions of Excel, the creation of charts and distributions, and some conditional formatting features.

Applied Knowledge and Understanding: The student will need to be able to use Excel software to analyze experimental results.

Autonomy of Judgment: The student will be expected to independently evaluate the plausibility of analysis results through analogical reasoning and sound scientific judgment.

Communication Skills: The student will need to acquire appropriate and accurate scientific language.

Learning Skills: The student will be able to deepen their understanding of specific concepts not covered during the course by consulting non-specialist scientific texts.

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Attendance

Minimum mandatory attendance: 70% of total practice lessons. As to the practical activities attendance is intended as the active participation to the lesson.

Assessment

The presence at the lectures and the exercises, requested by the lecturer on the blended platform during the internship meetings, are necessary to pass the interneship.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
