Learning Objectives

The educational objectives of the course include:
- acquisition of the notions and conceptual categories necessary to interact with different professionals who operate within public and private sports promotion bodies and sport organizations and associations;
- the assumption of competencies and social skills for interventions that pursue and protect the health of vulnerable subjects with specific needs in society;
- ability to get the sociological aspects related to the construction or reconstruction of the image of the athlete's and sportsman's body, also following traumas. 

- mastery of contents and communication strategies for the correct promotion of sport and physical activity for health and well-being aimed at subjects of all ages, genders, physical and social conditions, groups and populations;

Program

The topics of the lessons are divided into four units (developed in the indicated temporal sequence: 1-2-3-4) with related topics congruent with the educational objectives of the course of study, indication of specific textbooks for each unit, and seminars.Each unit will be supported by diversified scientific study material. Seminars with expert  professionals in the fields of interest are included.

1. Sport, physical activity and society - concepts and relationships

  • 1.1. Sport settings: organized sport, informal sport, social sport
  • 1.2. Systemic goals: training, competition, record
  • 1.3. Interactionist perspectives: identity and participation
  • 1.4. Sport and social health: social support, social capital

2. Sport in vulnerability and social fragility

  • 2.4. Vulnerable subjects, sport and inclusion

3. Sociological aspects of body image

  • 3.1 Body image and exercise

4. Communication of sport and physical activity: tools and methods

    Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

    Students will have to:

    -know contents and problems relating to health and social well-being and sport of individual and collective subjects (e.g. motivations, abandonment, lifestyle, habits); 

    know the strategies and methodologies relating to the communication and application of the guidelines for sport and physical activity 

    -support arguments relating to the resolution of problems concerning sport and society (e.g. social support, social capital, social policies for sport), demonstrate the ability to plan interventions towards individuals, groups and populations 

    -demonstrate the ability to formulate autonomous judgments as a result of reflections and discussion of hypotheses regarding the topics covered and the problems addressed 

    - demonstrate communication skills using appropriate language in a clear and understandable way 

    -show mastery of application of the methods learned for the exercise of critical reflection and problematization 

    Teaching Material

    The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

    Supporting Activities

    Seminars with the presence of external experts, professionals from the world of work in the field of competitive sport, amateur sport and sport for all, of social promotion, sport communication, the promotion of well-being and physical activity.


    Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment

    Teaching

    The teaching methods consist of lectures and thematic seminars with the presence of external experts.

    Innovative teaching methods

    Debate: Adoption of the regulated debate in the University in phases (preparation, launch, application, revision)

    Flipped classroom: Flipped learning in academic teaching. Students will be invited to present to the class personal studies and research pertinent to the topics addressed in the teaching program.

    Attendance

    For the preparation of the final exam, students will have to know the entire teaching program including the four units, and study the indicated articles. The preparation also includes the study of the teaching material on the teaching page of the Moodle blended learning platform.

    - knowledge of issues relating to sport and society (e.g. social support, social capital, social policies for sport), ability to plan interventions towards individuals, groups and populations (knowledge of strategies and procedures: insufficient, sufficient, good, excellent)
    - ability to formulate autonomous judgments as a result of reflections and discussion of hypotheses regarding the topics covered and the problems addressed (application of strategies and procedures: insufficient, sufficient, good, excellent)
    - communication skills using the appropriate language in a clear and understandable way (mastery of specific language: insufficient, sufficient, good, excellent)
    - mastery of the application of the methods learned for the exercise of critical reflection and problematisation (critical exercise, expressive autonomy: insufficient sufficient, good, excellent)

    Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

    Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

    To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
