Learning Objectives
The workshop applies concepts from the Children's Literature course by designing and simulating educational activities that encourage reading interest. These activities aim to develop a critical approach to children’s literature and foster creativity and teamwork among participants. In particular, the workshop aims to achieve the following educational outcomes:
· Develop the ability to explore through contemporary narrative choices and to evaluate and select texts that align with children's interests, recreational needs and educational requirements.
· Design activities that encourage reading, using diverse textual resources and methodologies adapted to the cognitive development and interests of young readers.
· Enhance storytelling skills through the narration and writing of both fiction and nonfiction short stories, integrating digital technologies to broaden narrative possibilities
· Foster active students' engagement by involving them in critical and reflective analysis of children’s literary works.
Program
The Children's Literature workshop is designed to develop activities and strategies aimed at promoting reading interest among preschool and primary school children. Throughout the workshop activities, students will acquire the ability to navigate the range of children's literature, select and evaluate texts suitable for this age group, develop storytelling skills and design creative workshop activities that enhance cultural and linguistic diversity.

Develop a comprehensive understanding of the diverse narratives in children’s literature. Assess the significance of various pedagogical approaches and techniques in fostering young readers’ engagement and literacy development.

Applying knowledge to design and implement simulated educational paths in children’s literature and reading activities for preschool and primary school environments, incorporating personalized adjustments and enhancements to suit specific educational needs.

Develop the capability to gather and analyze information from diverse sources, including printed materials like magazines and catalogs, and digital platforms like publishers’ websites, to critically assess and select high-quality narrative proposals.

Develop the ability to independently and critically rework narrative texts and materials intended for children in preschool and primary school settings.

- Innovative teaching methods
The instructional approach, including interactive, flipped, peer, project or inquiry-based learning methods, will be tailored based on the composition of the class group and evolving needs throughout the course.
- Attendance
To successfully complete the workshop, the following will be required:
· Ensure attendance for the entire duration of the workshop (12 hours).
· Participate actively in plenary discussions.
· Complete exercises throughout the course.
· Produce a final group project (a short nonfiction story).
- Course books
No specific textbooks are required; however, supplementary texts may be recommended in response to student interests and requests. Teaching materials (slides, videos and websites) and other useful digital resources for individual or group exercises can be found on the Moodle platform at blended.uniurb.it.
- Assessment
The assessment will involve the creation of a short nonfiction story, developed through group work. Students' narrative and expressive skills will be evaluated, with a particular focus on the articulation of the plot and effective communication of the main themes.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
