Learning Objectives

The workshop aims to provide an introduction to the research methodology used in psychology, illustrating the concepts and tools useful for doing research. The workshop includes the design of a research study and the production of a scientific report. In particular, the following topics will be covered: i) evaluation of scientific articles and preparation of a scientific report with a hint of bibliographical research; ii) understanding psychological/neuropsychological tests and the procedures used to administer known or new experiments; iii) reviewing psychometrics with data analysis using software; iv) drafting the research report.

Introduction to research methodology and the experimental method. Introduction to scientific reporting with an outline of bibliographic research

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Applying knowledge and understanding : the student must show an understanding of all phases of the design of empirical research in the field of psychology, with particular attention to the outlining of hypotheses on the basis of the literature, data collection and data analysis

Autonomy of judgement(making judgements). The student is expected to show critical judgement in the review of the literature useful for writing the introduction and discussion of the research findings.

Communication skills. The student should acquire the communication skills to clearly report hypotheses, materials and methods, results and discussion of the research carried out.

Learning skills. The student will have to prove himself/herself in the autonomous writing of a complete research report based on the experiences carried out during the in-presence laboratory hours.

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Teaching

Lectures and work in small groups to encourage independent homework as per teaching regulations

Innovative teaching methods

Students will be presented with research in the field of psychology to be developed using Problem-Based Learning methodology

Mandatory attendance with the possibility of one excused absence (see regulations for more information)

Course books

A review of the theoretical concepts covered in the Research Methodology Course with Elements of Statistics (first year) and Psychometrics (second year) is recommended.

Assessment

Comprehensive research report writing

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
