This course is taught partially in Italian and partially in a foreign language. Study materials can be provided in the foreign language and the final exam can be taken in the foreign language.

Learning Objectives

The course is aimed at gaining knowledge of the English language, with particular attention to commonly used vocabulary and grammatical structures, the development of skills in reading and understanding texts, understanding spoken language, and the ability to discuss and present a topic orally at the B1 level, according to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) criteria - promoting correct pronunciation of the English language.

The lessons are conducted partially in English.

Program

The course includes activities for text and/or audio comprehension and conversation on general and interesting topics to achieve a greater degree of language proficiency.

In particular, the course focuses on a brief in-depth study of some grammatical topics aimed at improving speaking and listening (productive and receptive skills).

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Knowledge and understanding:

By the end of the course, students should demonstrate an adequate level of knowledge of the grammatical and lexical structures (B1 level according to the CEFR - Common European Framework of Reference) covered. Consequently, students should demonstrate the ability to understand the main points of a general text/conversation.

Applied knowledge and understanding:

By the end of the course, students should:

  • Have knowledge of the grammatical and lexical elements covered, enabling them to interact with other speakers;
  • Be able to understand a general text;
  • Be able to formulate and respond to general questions.

Autonomy of judgment:

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

  • Express their preferences/opinions on general topics;
  • Have greater awareness of their own mistakes to be able to correct them.

Communication skills:

By the end of the course, students should:

  • Be able to communicate with a certain level of fluency to make the conversation more interactive;
  • Be able to engage in discussions on general topics based on the comprehension of a written text.

Learning skills:

By the end of the course, students should have a level of knowledge consistent with the B1 level of the grammatical and lexical topics covered and a degree of autonomy that allows for an in-depth and conscious study of the same.

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.

Additional Information for Non-Attending Students

Teaching

Study materials will be provided by the instructor through the Moodle platform at blended.uniurb.it.

To provide non-attending students with the opportunity to compensate for what is covered during the lessons through independent study, it is recommended to utilize all the materials available on the blended learning platform (slides, exercises, supplementary materials), which are particularly useful for a comprehensive understanding of the course content.
