The course aims to help students deepen their knowledge of the Latin language through reading and commenting on Virgil's Bucolics.

The course will propose a large anthology of Bucolics whose passages will be read and commented on from a grammatical, syntactic and stylistic point of view. In-depth studies on the Latin poetic language before and after Virgil are planned.

Students must have an adequate knowledge of the Latin language guaranteed by a written assessment test, specific for the three-year degree, preparatory to this and all the other exams that require knowledge of the Latin language (i.e. in the SSD L-FIL-LET / 04 and L-FIL-LET / 05), which cannot be sustained in the event of failure to pass the test itself. The test includes questions on the morphology and syntax of the Latin language and a translation of a passage taken from the work of an author of Latin literature, with the possibility of using the dictionary. Detailed information will be available both on the Blended Learning platform 'Verification of knowledge of the Latin language' and on the website of the School of Arts and Philosophy [https://www.uniurb.it/it/portale/distum.php?mist_id=17450&lang=IT&tipo = DISTUM & page = 02905]. There is a single test for each exam session and the dates for taking the test will be placed on the first effective day of the exam session and communicated on the School website and on the Blended Learning (Moodle) platform. The results of the test will be made available on the Blended Learning platform (Moodle).

knowledge and understanding: Students will have to get to know Latin grammar and syntax.

applied knowledge and understanding: Students will have to apply knowledge of Latin grammar and syntax in the translation of literary texts.

autonomy of judgment: Students will have to acquire the ability to judge a Latin literary text on the basis of language and style.

communication skills: Students must be able to read a Latin literary text in the original language, they must be able to translate and comment on it with adequate clarity from a grammatical, syntactic and stylistic point of view.

In order to assimilate the topics of the course it will be necessary to have at least a basic level of knowledge of the Latin language.

Attendance of at least 2/3 of the lessons for students who intend to take the exam as attending students.

Assessment

Students will have to demonstrate their ability to translate and comment from a grammatical and syntactic point of view all the texts provided for in the program.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
