Learning Objectives
The student will be able to understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions related to a field of specialisation. He/she will be able to analyse a clear and detailed text on a wide range of topics and summarise a point of view on a specific topic, as well as highlight the specialised vocabulary.
Program
The course covers the "Analyse du discours", as defined by the French school, represented in particular by Dominique Maingueneau. The student should be able at the end of the course to analyse a text (texte professionnel) of various kinds and to highlight its "lexique de spécialité".
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
The expected results, which are defined on the basis of the parameters indicated by the five Dublin descriptors, are declined on the basis of the indications provided by the CEFR for level C1. KNOWLEDGE AND CAPACITY TO UNDERSTAND At the end of the course, the student is expected to acquire solid, in-depth theoretical knowledge of the concepts developed, to be able to distinguish between different text genres and to read any text type of any length. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING Thanks to the various activities proposed during the course, the student should be able to apply knowledge and understanding, i.e. be able to manage communication using the specialised vocabulary learnt and the complex grammatical structures of the French language in a relevant manner. JUDGEMENT AUTONOMY At the end of the course, the student must demonstrate that he/she has developed critical skills enabling him/her to analyse and evaluate complex texts and authentic documents using different registers and styles and technical terminology, to coherently structure and develop his/her own point of view, to summarise and criticise complex texts. COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS By the end of the course, the student will have acquired the communicative skills described by the CEFR for level C1, i.e. participating effortlessly in a conversation or discussion, using vocabulary and expressions appropriate to the context; reformulating one's own thoughts, being able to find synonyms and periphrases; presenting clear and detailed descriptions of complex topics by integrating related themes and developing the various points in a logical and coherent manner.

Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment
- Teaching
Classroom lectures on all course topics. Lessons will be enriched by exercises, written and oral tests, exposés. All lessons will be conducted mainly in French. It will be the teacher's particular care to encourage the productive intervention of the students both by asking for clarifications and by expressing personal solutions/opinions. This intervention must be aimed at encouraging an active reception of the course contents. All this will allow a considered acquisition of the contents themselves.
- Innovative teaching methods
The face-to-face teaching method will be enriched with individual and group exercises and in-depth studies, which students will carry out using the University's Moodle platform.
Some topics of the course will be treated following the practice of the ‘classe inversée’ (inverted lesson).
This course is taught entirely in French and requires the active participation of students.

Additional Information for Non-Attending Students
- Teaching
Non-attending students will find the content used during the semester uploaded on Blended.
The study for them will be autonomous, both for the more strictly theoretical part and for the practical part.
The Teacher is available to receive non-attending students who have questions or wish to practise.
