Learning Objectives
Ability to contextualize the activity of Piero della Francesca, painter, architect and treatise writer, in the fervent period of Renaissance art, relating it to Tuscan culture and the impact it had on the Urbino environment.
Program
The topics covered will aim to deepen the artist's training in the workshop of Domenico Veneziano from whom he took up his interest in light, and therefore his travels to various Italian courts from Urbino to Ferrara. The iconographic readings of his works will be analyzed analytically, which have often prompted art literature to investigate their meanings. The decisive element will be the awareness of the importance of perspective, a certain symbolic form of a measurable and man-dominated era expertly represented by Piero della Francesca who composed treatises such as De Prospettiva pingendi and De quinque corporibus regularibus.
Bridging Courses
Knowledge, even if basic, of the history of 15th century art.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
The student must develop the ability to read Italian Renaissance culture (and not only) not in notional terms, but rather linked to history, society and the economy. They must also be able to use the theoretical knowledge learned in the professional field (for example, be able to create tourist guides on the topic, compile brochures, etc.). Ability to communicate learned data.
The student/student must be enabled to understand and discuss the acquisition processes of teaching strategies, therefore interactive lessons and activities will be offered; he/she will be able to develop teaching materials whose content and procedures are in line with the acquisition of content.
The student/student will acquire a critical understanding of the degree of effectiveness of the teaching activities and content used in learning the guidelines of Renaissance art history, thus contextualising Piero della Francesca's activity. To this end, they will analyse FL textbooks during interactive lessons and pair- and group-work activities.
The student/student will be able to communicate complex ideas in written and oral form. To achieve this, he/she will make individual and group presentations in class by posting comments and reflections on Moodle in order to trigger comparisons and discussions;
The student/student will be able to listen attentively and work individually and in groups, for which purpose lectures, pair and group work will be organised.
