Learning Objectives

Development of significant skills in carrying out physical activities for a population of adults and elderly, guests in specialized structures, such as retirement homes;

stimulus-situations analyses useful for the application of preventive and maintaining quality of life project, with particular reference to the frail and institutionalized elderly;

assessment  about the correspondence between personal expectations/ inclinations and the real characteristics of practice in the specific context proposed by the internship;

possibility of working with experimental protocols  in the operational context of the internship.

Program

Theoretical- applicative introduction, common to all internship members.

Direct internship sessions / activity simulations at the retirement residences for the elderly, organized for individual work or in small groups (3-4 people);

Ongoing and final reflection reporting about the experience carried out and the skills developed, common to all members.

During the internship period, the student must write internship document (agenda provided by the teacher and/or ppt file) where they can collect all the emerged information and considerations  and the practical proposals advanced during the various phases of the internship (observational, applied and propositional). This documentation must be delivered in digital format to the  teacher's email address, at the end of internship.

In the event that the health situation does not yet allow access to residences for the elderly, the work will be carried out through practical simulations in the gym, with the active involvement of the participating students, organized in small groups.

Applying knowledge and understanding.

- Knowledge and understanding of the theories and concepts contemplated by the course;

- ability to analyze different aspects and needs of the elderly in different social settings (home, institutions).

- ability to conceive and design learning units and planning lessons for different target users;

- ability to propose and tailor a physical activity intervention which is able to address specific issues, even for people with different physical, mental and social abilities;

- ability to select the most appropriate teaching strategies, evaluate events and identify the relevant key issues for a successful training.

 Communication skills.

- Knowing the techniques that can enhance communicative, intellectual and learning skills;

- ability to read and interpret nonverbal communication;

- ABILITY TO DEVELOP NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS.

 Learning skills.

- Ability to critically analyze and evaluate researches (in their fundamental methodological aspects), motor projects conducted in different settings;

- ability to independently investigate issues related to different settings;

Knowledge of the problems of physical and sports activity in elderly. Design skills in creating training programs.

Competence in the implementation of physical activity protocols in different social and environmental settings (gym, unstructured environment, natural environment).

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Educational workshop; any technical-practical lessons in the gym; training sessions at the host protected residence.

There are no mandatory texts; for those who have not attended exams relating to motor activity for adults and the elderly, we recommend:

For specific study interests, further bibliographical insights can be agreed with the teacher.

Assessment

Attendance for at least two thirds of the duration of the internship; internship agenda delivery.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.

Notes

Due to the  management of retirement residences for the elderly, the  way of carrying out the internship will be communicated at the beginning of the course.
