Learning Objectives
Recent scientific evidence demonstrates the protective and preventive role of physical activity in oncological pathologies, both as an adjuvant factor in treatment and in improving prognosis and reducing the risk of relapses. This course aims to provide students with evidence on the benefits induced by physical activity both at a systemic and local level in the tumor microenvironment with particular attention to translational research in biological terms, both onco-preventive and onco-protective.
Program
The scheduled lessons will deal with the role of physical activity in modern oncology and some contributions from experts in the sector will be presented against new perspectives in the management of cancer patients with operational proposals for a multidisciplinary and translational work team.
This Course we will take advantage of the training intervention trial, ‘Movement and Health Beyond Care (MoviS), in collaboration with the Oncology Unit of the Hospital of Urbino, which aims to educate BC survivors in follow-up on the benefits of personalized exercise and proper nutrition based on Mediterranean Diet.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
The specific competencies developed by the course can be listed, using the Dublin Descriptor System as follows. Knowledge and understanding: The course is organized in synergistic lessons with each other due to the interdisciplinarity that characterizes the training courses. The course will allow you to acquire in-depth theoretical skills with reference to: a) molecular and cellular mechanisms that modulate the release capacity of functional molecules (myokines) by muscle tissue following different exercise protocols and types of fibers; b) principles and applications of methodologies for the study of tumor proliferation in tumor cell models. Knowledge and understanding will be acquired by attending lectures and specialized seminars, as well as through individual study using texts and teaching materials suggested during the lessons. Particularly qualifying is the fact of being able to offer to the students the participation in practical laboratory sessions. Active participation and assessments will be verified within multiple-choice tests.
Teaching Material
The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

- Assessment
Active participation and assessments will be verified within multiple-choice tests.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
