Learning Objectives

Ability to adequately use the basics for the use of the Excel.

In particular, the student will have to acquire the ability independently with the aim of knowing how to build and manage databases, use the main logical and statistical functions.

Program

Introduction to the excel environment and formulas: mathematical formulas. Database. Exercise

Logical formulas: if, and, or, not, if nested: Exercises.

The formulas: countifs; sumifs; meanifs; minifs; maxifs; rank;offset. Exercises.

Formulas: indirect; offset; mean, median, mode, deviance, variance, dev.st; regression (intercept and slope) and correlation. match; concatenate. Exercises. 1

Z-test on a sample, media and prop. T-test on one sample, test on two samples, for paired and unpaired data.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Knowledge and understanding: the student will have to know the logic of using an electronic sheet in its basic and advanced functions, in the management of cells and formulas.

Applied knowledge and understanding: the student must be able to apply the basic notions to structure an electronic worksheet and know how to process a database.

Making judgements: the student must be able to independently evaluate the quality of the output of a spreadsheet programmed by him/her.

Communication skills: the student will have to acquire a correct computer language.

Learning skills: the student will be able to analyze specific data matrices, not presented during the course, in order to be able to obtain the appropriate statistics.
