Learning Objectives
Themes
The study program of this edition of the Summer Course in Cultural Studies refers to translation from American English and Chinese, with a specific focus on translation studies, cultural studies, gender studies, and film studies. The specific aim of this Summer School is to study in depth the cultures of China and the United States, including book market, tourism, and literature. Participants will acquire the following skills: building and managing the vocabulary and the registers specific to the discipline, recognizing languages and forms of alterity, analyzing texts and situations from an intercultural point of view.

Translation for book market, teaching, tourism, intercultural mediation, political science, literature, arts, eno-gastronomy. All fields that require the knowledge of Anglo- American and/or Chinese language and culture.

Activities of PhD Students
Lectures, laboratories, video (e-learning via Moodle platform). Some lessons are meant for all studenst, while others are specific for each group.

Constant verification in itinere, with a single final written test (short text to be translated and critically analyzed).

Professional opportunities
The course takes place online from Monday 5 July to Friday 9 July, morning and afternoon, with the exam scheduled for Monday 12 July. International lecturers and experts will participate. Participants are asked to obtain Sergio Guerra's volume "Cultura Futura" (Aras 2021), all the rest of the material will be included in the course materials. The course gives a total of 4 ECTS and a certificate of participation is required.

Focus on America: English level B1 (submit documentation); Focus on China: Chinese - not absolute beginners admitted (self-certification is valid) Students who meet the requirements will be admitted in chronological order of submission of the enrollment application, complete with payment of the due fee, until the maximum number of places available is reached.
