Learning Objectives

The Course in Geology for Environmental Sustainability, offered by the School of Geological and Environmental Sciences of the Department of Pure and Applied Sciences, provides modern and interdisciplinary training, focusing on studying the Earth system and sustainable management of natural resources. The three-year-long programme provides 180 ECTS. Access to the course is open after a test of mathematical preparation (VPI).

The program includes 18 classes spread over three years, plus classes chosen by the student for 12 ECTS, English language, workshops, traineeships and a final exam. The first year provides a solid scientific basis introductory to Earth Sciences. The second and third years focus on more specific and applied aspects. In the third year, students can choose between two curricula: Geotechnologies for sustainable land management, which deepens knowledge of geotechnologies, geotechnics, geophysics, geological exploration and natural resources, with a focus on ecological transition; Environmental geology, which focuses on topics related to the environment and geology, such as environmental impact, climate risk and ecology. Ample space is dedicated to practical activities, such as exercises, workshops, excursions, and field activities.

The course trains professionals with expertise in geological mapping, resource management, environmental impact assessment, mitigation of geological hazards, subsurface survey techniques, and innovative technologies. The preparation allows direct access to the Master’s Degree in Environmental Geology and Land Management (LM-74) and, after the State Examination, to the qualification as a Junior Geologist (Section B).

Thanks to the Erasmus+ programme and agreements with public and private institutions, students can enrich their careers with international experiences and internships, expanding their professional prospects in Italy and abroad.
