Informazioni:
A partire dall'A.A. 2005/06 il lettorato di lingua inglese viene organizzato per livelli di competenza anziché per anno di iscrizione e non si hanno più quindi esercitazioni di lingua per gli studenti del I, II o III anno, ma gruppi individuati secondo il livello di competenza (riconducibili ai livelli del Quadro Comune Europeo).
Prima dell'inizio delle lezioni, alle matricole sarà somministrato un test di lingua che permetterà di stabilire i livelli di competenza linguistica di ciascuno studente. I risultati dei suddetti test permetteranno di costituire delle classi di studio omogenee. In considerazione del fatto che il sistema scolastico italiano assicura un insegnamento diffuso della lingua inglese si richiede alle matricole per tale lingua una conoscenza di partenza che si attesti sul livello A2 del Quadro Comune Europeo (per consultare gli indicatori linguistici per ogni livello Cfr. www.uniurb.it/cla/corsi_di_lingua/quadro_europeo.php). Non sono previsti pertanto corsi intensivi iniziali in lingua inglese e l'eventuale debito formativo dovrà essere colmato dallo studente autonomamente.
Dopo il test di piazzamento, ogni studente sarà inserito in un gruppo adeguato alle sue conoscenze e potrà passare ad un livello superiore previa indicazione del docente e/o superamento dell'esame (relativo al livello frequentato). Si ricorda che per il I anno la prova scritta sarà adeguata al livello B1, per il II anno al livello B2 e per il III al livello C1.
Le prove scritte del corso di laurea magistrale sono equiparabili ai livelli C1 avanzato (I anno) e C2 (II anno).

The coursework will be based on C1 level audio and video recordings. Class discussion will address language and vocabulary, personal opinion, related topics and elaboration of these topics . Participation is an essential part of the

The course is in two parts, the first will examine definitions, examples and implications of multimodal texts. Drawing on diverse fields of inquiry, including semiotics, visual grammar, communication studies, media literacy, visual literacy and multi-literacies, to the interpretation of multimodal texts and how these perspectives expand readers' interpretive repertoires. The course focuses on concepts of multimodality, meanings beyond language, socio-cultural domains, and communication. It aims to explore the multimodal and multimedia fields, highlighting distinctions and overlap. Examples include animated texts, kinetic typography and also static texts. The implications, particularly for education, will be discussed. The second part of the course is translating from Italian to English, classwork includes theory and practice , vocabulary expansion and study of syntax and semantics in translation. Each lesson will involve practical examples.

Exam The WRITTEN exam will also be divided into two parts, one part dedicated to a static text and image, which students interpret using the appropriate metalanguage. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of discourse analysis, and interrelation of text and image as well as coherent expression of messages conveyed. The other part dedicated to the translation of a text from Italian to English.
For the ORAL exam, students should prepare a multimodal text of their choice (maximum 1min), in a power point presentation (5-10 slides). Any combination of modes is acceptable, although it should be academically appropriate, and the student will be assessed on his/her ability to interpret the text.

The first year of the English course will have two main focuses: translation and interculltural training. Classwork will involve the discussion of translations, discussion of the book, "Do Not Sleep, there are snakes " by Daniel Everett. , and discussion of films with an intercultural theme, especially regarding Australia. (The book is available on www.amazon.it, also in the form of an immediately downloadable e-book). All reading and translation work assigned must be prepared on time, BEFORE the class in which it will be discussed.

WRITTEN EXAM - The exam has two parts: a short translation (200-300 words in length) and a short composition on an intercultural theme. While students will not be required to use information from Do Not Sleep There Are Snakes
in responding to the essay question, they are encouraged to read the book before the exam, as it provides numerous examples of intercultural communication that may be of use in responding to the essay question...

PER IL CORSO DI LAUREA MAGISTRALE IN COMUNICAZIONE INTERCULTURALE D'IMPRESA

The English 2 course is designed to help students take a closer look at the concept of intercultural communication and culture shock. During the course, students will be required to read and discuss two texts:

"Do Not Sleep, there are snakes" by Daniel Everett (any edition) and
"River Town" by Peter Hessler (any edition)

During class, we will be examining how a country's history and geography affect people's behaviour, through reading and video work regarding China, the Amazon Basin, South Africa, India, and other countries.

For the ORAL EXAM, students will be required to prepare a final project.: an intercultural training dossier. Students will be given the choice of working in teams to prepare a dossier on Australia or South Africa (using the books and films provided alongside their own research) or doing individual projects, in which case each student will be asked to use the information they have gleaned from "Do NOt Sleep There Are Snakes " OR "River Town" to prepare a training manual designed to help prepare a new graduate for work either as an assistant to Dan Everettt in working with the Piraha tribe, or as an Italian language instructor who will be working at the Fuling Teacher's College. WRITTEN EXAM: Students will be required to write an essay on an intercultural theme, using the information gained in their two years of intercultural studies. Students will find the two coursebooks and the information on the blog useful in developing their essay.
