Obiettivi Formativi
This course aims at providing the basic tools and concepts for the analysis of firms’ behaviour and performance within industries. Within this context, a substantial part of the course will be devoted to the determinants and effects of the internationalisation of firms, with a special focus on multinationals. The main characteristics of the Italian economy will also be discussed, together with the rationales and tools of industrial policy.
Programma
The course is articulated into two modules:
Module I: Basics of Industrial Economics
Introduction: what are the questions addressed by industrial economics and course structure
The structure and characteristics of the Italian industry
Monopoly and regulation
Price discrimination
Oligopoly
Market structure and market power
Strategic behaviour
Market structure and innovation
Theory of the firm and corporate governance
Module II: Economics of the multinational firm
Introduction to economics of the multinational firm: stylized facts and big issues
Determinants of foreign investments
Internalisation
Effects of multinational firms on home economies
Effects of multinational firms on host economies
Multinational firms and economic policy

accertamento Oral examination either in Italian or in English.
