Learning Objectives

Form 3B: (5CFU - 125 hours)
. The course will enable the student to acquire the main concepts related to manufactures paintings on Synthetic Materials machined, assembled and / or painted, through the knowledge of the techniques used and the constituent materials, the phenomena of degradation and techniques of historical restoration. During the course, we will be introduced even some notions related to restoration and the main materials used. Filing conservative; thematic mapping of degradation and interventions on manufactured goods subject to intervention. Photographic documentation. Technical execution; tech materials: binders and supports atypical industrial production; degradation of the constituent materials: causes and phenomenology of degradation; restoration and case studies; preventive conservation.

1- Lectures; Works using traditional techniques or those assimilated.
The monochrome paintings.
The unstable materials and combinations of materials.
Perishable and transient art works.
Mixed techniques.
Supports: canvas, cotton and hemp, linen, silk, paper, cardboard (Masonite, Hardboard), plastics, woods, plaster etc.
Pigments: oil, acrylic, ink, tempera.
The colored earth, mortars, plasters.
The epoxy resins and polyesters.

4- Technical reconstruction of synthetic materials 15 Hours

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Acquire the main concepts in the artifacts of synthetic substrate , through the knowledge of the techniques used and the constituent materials , the phenomena of degradation and techniques of historical restoration through a careful analysis of the degradation .
Acquire some previous knowledge related to restoration work ( structural analysis and constituent materials consolidation , compensation for injuries , leveling of deformations , reitegrazioni gaps , etc . ) And the main materials to be used that will be detailed during the modules .

Assessment

Final exam test with open-ended and closed on the topics covered by the lectures. Oral exam on the final report of the work done in the module
