Learning Objectives

The course aims to provide the theoretical background, supported by specific practical exercises, of the main methods used in the field of motor and performance rehabilitation. It also aims to provide specific competences, as member of a multidisciplinary team of rehab specialists, to plan and conduct land- and water-based exercise protocols aimed at recovery and enhancing the motor abilities.

Program

Overall introduction

  • General principles of the rehabilitation treatment; Objectives of rehabilitation.

Land-based rehab

  • Conservative and post-surgical treatment; Methods and tools available; Rehabilitative protocols in the major dysfunctional and/or pathological occurrences of spinal column, upper limb, and lower limb; List of other methods.

Water-based rehab

  • Physical proprieties of the water; The 'ideal" pool; general principles of water-based rehab; Rehabilitative strategies and protocol in water; therapeutic water-based rehabilitative guidelines for the pathologies and injuries of the muscle-skeletal system; Practice lessons.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Theoretical learning outcomes. The student will possess:

  • a proven knowledge of the theoretical concepts that ground the discipline and a deepen understanding of the theoretical concepts that ground the different late stage rehab methods;
  • the ability to work, from a practical standpoint, with what is mentioned in the previous point, with the aim of contextualizing and tailoring the concepts for their subsequent correct practical application.

Practical learning outcomes. The student will possess:

  • the ability to apply the theoretical concepts in design and conduct adapted physical activity programs with rehab and/or secondary prevention goals;
  • the ability to contextualize and tailor what is mentioned in the previous point, even in non-standard or in multidisciplinary settings, with the aim of designing and implementing rehab programs tailored to both the subject and the overal rehabilitation program.

Integrated learning outcomes (theoretical-practical). The student will have developed:

  • the ability to integrate theoretical concepts and practical skills to tailor the rehab intervention on each subject, taking into account the overall rehab process;
  • the theoretical-practical learning skills necessary to stay abreast of the ever-changing body of specific knowledge in the field, even once they have entered the workforce.
