Learning Objectives
Acquisition of knowledge relating to the phenomenon of literary serialization even before tv serialization; acquisition of knowledge relating to the phenomenon of transatlantic cultural transmission even before the era of globalization; knowing how to distinguish between "genre" and "poetics", between a novel and a screenplay, between an original work and rewriting; knowing how to discuss authorship, story-telling, convergence culture. Prepare for contexts of interaction with experts (eg webinars, conferences).
Program
The program consists of two-hour lectures on the theme of intermediality. In particular three case studies will be examined: the Sherlock Holmes saga, including pastiches, adaptations, and tv series; The War of the Worlds, from H.G.Wells’s novel to Orson Welles’s radio drama, up to movies and video-installations; The Big Sleep, from R.Chandler’s novel to the film script, up to the most recent reinterpretations of the P.I. character in tv series.
Lecture (1) Pastiches and rewritings: the case of Sherlock Holmes;
Lecture (2) Transmediality: the case of The War of the Worlds;
Lezione (3) Transmediality: the case of The Big Sleep.

Knowing how to argue what has been learned through text analysis and discussions; knowing how to apply theory to case studies; knowing how to use critical language; knowing how to raise objections and propose innovative ideas.
