  È in possesso del titolo di Dottore di Ricerca, conseguito all’interno del Dottorato in Citodifferenziamento Molecolare, XVI ciclo, Università degli Studi di Bologna.

Negli anni successivi alla laurea ha lavorato presso l’Istituto di scienze Morfologiche della Università degli Studi di Urbino, occupandosi inizialmente della morte cellulare programmata o apoptosi, in linee cellulari emopoietiche.

Si è occupata inoltre del Controllo di qualità applicato agli emoderivati (sacche di emazie concentrate e di piastrine). Tale attività  ha non solo validità clinica ma anche interesse scientifico, in quanto è stata svolta avvalendosi dei protocolli e delle tecniche, ottimizzate all’interno di un Progetto Europeo.  Si è occupata inoltre della enumerazione e della caratterizzazione citometrica di cellule staminali/progenitrici CD34+, prevalentemente da sangue placentare, prendendo parte a TRIAL di valutazione sia nazionale che internazionale

   Tra le ultime linee di ricerca seguite risultano:

o    Effetti subcellulari indotti da nanoparticelle e nanofibrille (di silice e cellulosa) su cellule tumorali e cellule del sangue periferico. Nanoparticelle e nanofibrille di cellulosa stanno sempre più trovando impiego in vari campi: fabbricazione di adesivi, packaging, componenti optoelettronici e dispositivi medici.

o    Studio di microvescicole ed esosomi prodotti in seguito a vari trigger, sia in vitro (linee cellulari) che in vivo (plasma umano e murino). Microvescicole ed esosomi sono ormai chiaramente riconosciuti come mediatori della comunicazione intercellulare. Il loro contenuto include una serie di elementi citoplasmatici,in relazione alla tipologia cellulare di origine. La loro enumerazione e caratterizzazione è ostacolata dalle piccole dimensioni e dalla varietà e complessità dei campioni biologici in cui si trovano. Il nostro obbiettivo è standardizzare e ottimizzare il protocollo sulla base dell’eterogeneità del pool di microvescicole e delle varie fonti biologiche.

o Studio del processo apoptotico e autofagico in linee mieloidi (U937) e monociti del sangue  periferico, stimolati da lisati cellulari di Campylobacter jejuni, contenenti CDT (cytolethal  distending toxin). Diversamente da altri patogeni enterici, il C.jejuni esplica la sua virulenza principalmente per mezzo del suo apparato flagellare. Le OMV (outer membrane vesicles) identificabili nel surnatante delle colture di C. jejuni contengono una tossina biologicamente attiva: la CDT (Cytolethal Distending Toxin) che può agire sulle cellule target inducendo apoptosi. Nei nostri studi abbiamo dimostrato coinvolgimento del pathway autofagico e apoptotico ,con particolare impatto sul comparto endosomiale e lisosomiale.
